Work Overview:
The “Real-time Digital Materials and Surfaces” course at SCAD provides background and instruction towards creating digital materials and textures for digital surfaces rendered in real-time. The curriculum was split into three project: seamless textures, manufactured materials, and organic materials. Students created the textures and materials from scratch, either from photos or within Substance Designer. The materials were applied in Substance Painter to custom models made in Autodesk Maya.
Materials: Manufactured
January 23, 2020 – February 13, 2020
This project called for materials, made in Substance Designer, that could be considered manufactured/processed.
These materials were given two variations; new & old.
The scene was captured and rendered in real-time with Unreal Engine.
Materials: Organic
February 13, 2020 – March 5, 2020
This project called for materials, made in Substance Designer, that could be considered organic.
These materials were given two variations; new & old.
The scene was captured and rendered in real-time with Unreal Engine.
Materials: Seamless and Procedural
January 7, 2020 – January 23, 2020
The project asked for a seamless material to be created in Substance Alchemist/Bitmap2Material using photographs taken of the real texture.
The project also called for three other materials made procedurally in Substance Designer’s material graph editor.
The four materials created are applied to simple primitive shapes and rendered in Unreal Engine at real-time.
